Papers, 1777-1786.

In four letters, Virginia Governor Patrick Henry orders Col. Charles Lewis of Albemarle to march his men to join General Washington; in letters of 1777 Feb. 21 and Mar. 15, reviews the plans for the Virginia militia to guard British troops, and notes that guns and flints will be sent to arm the guard at Albemarle barracks. To North Carolina governor Richard Caswell, Henry comments on possible actions by British forces. The 1786 April 18 land grant (under treasury warrant 18,159) for 2,000 acres in Harrison County (now W. Va.) to James Newport, William Kay, John Shields, John Redman, and Robert McNight, attorneys and trustees for Isaac Sidman is signed by Patrick Henry.
